Bude RFC
Match Report Newquay Hornets v Bude 02/10/21

Newquay Hornets welcomed their North Coast neighbours, Bude to the sports centre on Saturday and a tough game was to be expected, Bude looked to be a bigger side than the Hornets and the first quarter was contested evenly. Bude were first on the score sheet after 18 minutes, they had a maul in the Hornets 22 and were in control of the maul to gain ground and to release the ball out to the left-hand side to go over for the first try. then on 35 minutes Hornets conceded a penalty and Bude extended the lead to 0-8, it was on the 38th minute of the first half that Bude, within Hornets 22 had an attacking scrum, and the weight advantage allowed the scrum to move forward and the Bude No 9 passing out to the left-hand side for a converted try going 0-15 up.
At half time Hornets made 3 changes and were kicking off towards the sports centre end, the ball was taken by Bude but Tylor Croft made a cracking tackle, the ball was collected by Newquay and passed back to Aaron Simmonds at 10 who struck a lovely drop goal to put the Hornets on the score sheet.
With 10 minutes gone of the second half Newquay have been awarded a penalty in Budes 22, Tylor Croft took a quick tap penalty and ran hard for the line but Budes defence was solid and 2 or 3 more attempts to cross were to no avail, Bude eventually winning the ball and clearing their line. On 25 minutes into the 2nd half, Hornets work rate kept them moving forward applying pressure and with an infringement by Bude Simmonds pulled back another 3 points to make it 6-15. Hornets continued to apply pressure and on 28 minutes were rewarded with another penalty for Simmonds to make it 9-15.
Hornets sensed there could be an upset here and stepped up a gear and were once again awarded another penalty, Simmonds once again added the 3 points to make the score 12-15. Time was getting close which only spurred the Hornets side on and they once again put pressure on the Bude line, but once again the Bude defence held them back from the try line, but none the less the pressure continued and once again it was the boy Simmonds to kick the penalty to make the scores level at 15 apiece. Everyone on the side line was calling for time but the Refs watch was still ticking. Bude kicked off and charged at the Newquay receiving end which forced an error, Newquay were adjudged to of infringed and Bude kicked for touch giving them the line out, as per the whole game their line out was superb and with the ball won, they crashed over for an unconverted try to win the game 15-20.
Unfortunately, that game sees Newquay move to the bottom of the table just below Hayle who had a narrow win at home to Withycombe by 13 points to 12. Bude now head the leader board with 5 wins from 5.
Tomorrow The Hornets are away to Cullompton who have had 2 wins and a draw from 5 games.
There is a coach leaving the sports centre at 10:30 if any spectators wish to travel.
Next week the league games are having a week of, and Hornets next game will be at Home to Hayle on the 23rd October
