Newquay Hornets RFC
Perranporth RFC

Hornets' keep up their impressive form to take 7 try win over local rivals Perranporth.

In good conditions at the Sports Centre on Saturday Newquay made an unusual slow start to this final home league game of the season.

But another man of the match performance from Captain Dan Johns was earned when he broke the deadlock on 20 minutes with a burst through to score under the posts. This was converted by centre Frazer Kellythorn. That score was closely followed by a clever dummy from young scrum half Jack Humphries who crossed to ease the pressure on the expectant crowd.

The dominant Nornets' scrum relished the opportunity to create a push over for Johns to take an easy touch down from No8 and soon after hooker Phil Cornes crossed from close in to secure the bonus point before the close the first half.

The second half did not excite the watching support with errors and scrappy play frustrating both sides however, newly promoted fly half Dick Burns (special agent) finished a superb move to enable the home side to keep up the pressure on their visitors closely followed by Burns making an excellent break only to gift the try to his centre Perry Hughes under the posts which Burns converted.

The Hornets pressed for more points and were rewarded by the crowds favourite, prop Dervis Deveren, who raced to the line beating the cover defence to touch down and finish the scoring for the promoted Hornets.

On the 31st the Hornets are away at Stithians which will complete their league commitments for the season.
